The Best Film Award

Álvaro Martins – Master of the Portuguese Guitar

The Best Film Award of the Moinho Cine Fest pays tribute to Álvaro Martins, a major figure of the Portuguese guitar and a native of Padrão da Légua, in Custóias. From an early age, he dedicated his life to music, accompanying some of the greatest names in fado and building an extensive body of work with more than one hundred recordings as a performer, composer and lyricist.

Recognised for the precision, sensitivity and authenticity of his playing, he brought Portuguese culture to national and international stages. Naming this award after him celebrates his legacy and inspires filmmakers to pursue the same artistic truth that marked his career.

To learn more about his life and work, we recommend the documentary O Barbeiro Guitarrista, directed by André Almeida Rodrigues, as well as his Wikipedia article.
